  • Jacob Pellinen, MD, is a neurologist specialising in epilepsy at UC Health and Assistant Professor of Neurology at the University of Colorado School of Medicine. He is a board-certified neurologist with additional board certification in epilepsy. He completed training in neurology at NYU School of Medicine, where he also completed fellowships in both epilepsy and clinical research in epilepsy.

Currently, Jacob’s primary clinical responsibilities involve the comprehensive care of people with epilepsy. This includes advanced pre-surgical epilepsy studies including electrocorticography, Wada testing, and cortical mapping. It also encompasses the use of neuromodulation modalities including vagus nerve stimulation (VNS), responsive neurostimulation (RNS), and deep brain stimulation (DBS), as well as providing comprehensive neuropsychological care for people with non-epileptic seizures and mixed seizure disorders.

Jacob’s research interests include identifying ways of improving time-to-diagnosis and treatment of patients with new-onset epilepsy to reduce potentially preventable morbidity and mortality. He also is focused on assessing the impact of first-time seizures, seizure frequency, and medications on quality of life for people with epilepsy and finding ways of improving health outcomes. Additional research interests of Jacob’s include improving the treatment of people with epilepsy through medications and devices, as well as quality improvement in the field of epilepsy.
